University of the Cumberlands (UC) Head Coach Matt Lowers has added two additional captains to his 2012-2013 wrestling team.  Joining junior Calob Perkins (Miamisburg, OH) will be senior Zachary Barkett (Woodbridge, VA) and sophomore Anthonie Linares (San Jose, CA).

"After watching these two the past two weeks, it is very obvious they are both leaders and embrace the message we are trying to convey to our team.  Both Zack and Anthonie provide leadership in different ways that complement what Calob brings us.  I think between the three of them, they will do an excellent job leading our team on the mat, in practices, in the classroom, and off the mat," said Lowers.

Senior Zachary Barkett is a returning national qualifier at 165 pounds.  In his career, he has been named MSC Academic All-Conference twice and was named to the prestigious Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete team last year.  His GPA of 3.88 ranked him 4th in the country last year among his peers.  When asked about Zach, Coach Lowers stated, "Zach has had an exceptional career as a Patriot.  He is exactly what every coach looks for in a student-athlete.  Zach is going to go on and do great things in life and I am confident he will do great things on the mat this year."  Barkett is currently ranked 8th in the NAIA.

Sophomore Anthonie Linares is a returning All-American at 149 pounds.  As a true freshman, Anthonie did what is generally considered unthinkable as he became an NAIA All-American at one of the toughest weight classes in the country.  "Anthonie came in with high goals and expectations for himself and he didn't let anything deter him from those goals.  His mindset hasn't changed this year in his quest for a national title.  Anthonie has a tremendous focus.  Both our freshman and our veterans can learn a lot by just watching the way he carries himself," said Coach Lowers.

The Patriots wrap up their 1st semester competition on Saturday, December 8th at Fort Wayne, IN where they will have dual competitions against: Calumet College, Hannibal La Grange College, Missouri Baptist and Indiana Tech.
