The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Wrestling program once again is making a splash in the NAIA and Mid-South Conference as they continue to compete against some of the top talent in the country. As the 1st edition of this year's NAIA Top 25 poll was released, the Patriots continue to be mentioned as one of the nation's best.
The Patriots were voted #8 in the NAIA in this edition of the poll. Grand View (Iowa) came in at #1 after earning 137 total team points. Other notable teams in the NAIA Top 20 include Campbellsville University (#3), Lindsey Wilson College (#10), Cumberland University (#14), and Indiana Tech (#15).
Anthonie Linares (San Jose, CA) fell 1 spot in the individual rankings in the 149 lb weight class moving from 2nd to 3rd. Javier Arellano (Azusa, CA) made his way to #7 in the 157 lb weight class after being unranked in the preseason poll. Zachary Barkett (Woodbridge, VA) stayed at #8 in the 165 lb category in this poll.
In the 174 lb class, Daniel Toth (St. Charles, IL) made his 1st appearance in the individual rankings at #12. Jeremy Gardner (Frankfort, KY) made a large jump in the poll to #4 in the 184 lb category. In the 197 lb class, Courtney Freeman (Riverdale, GA) dropped from #6 to #9 in this poll. Vince Pezzuto (Las Vegas, NV) made a good jump in the poll as he jumped from #9 to #5 in the NAIA.
The Patriots will be back in action on Saturday December 1st as they travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to take part in the Little States Invite.
