Recently the NAIA recognized the athletes named 2012 NAIA All Americans. This honor is held by the top 30 finishers in the NAIA National Cross Country Championships that were held in Vancouver, WA on November 17th.
Senior Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH) and sophomore Danielle Hoop (Owenton, KY) earned this honor for their top 30 finishes at the NAIA National Championship.
Mascotti and Hoop advanced to Nationals after placing 1st and 2nd in the Mid-South Conference Cross Country meet with qualifying times of 18:46 and 18:47 respectively. Mascotti has had a tremendous senior season and earned several MSC Runner of the Week honors this season. She finished in 19th place at the NAIA Nationals with a time of 18:22. Hoop finished milliseconds ahead of Mascotti in 18th place finishing also with a time of 18:22.
The previous year at the 2011 NAIA Cross Country National Championships, Mascotti finished running a time of 18:54 finishing 49th overall followed by Hoop who finished in 96th place with a time of 19:25 on the same course. The Patriot ladies competed against a total of 323 runners total in this race. Both of these ladies improved drastically and had a larger competitive field from the previous year, Mascotti running over 30 seconds faster this year, and Hoop running over a minute faster.
Due to Mascotti's finish of top thirty capturing the All-American spot, she also earned the Academic All-American. In order to receive this award you must have finished as a top thirty individual in the National Championship race and have a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 grading scale. Mascotti has had an outstanding 4.0 grade point average through her entire cross country career.
