On Wednesday, October 31st the University of the Cumberlands (UC) baseball team decorated their baseball field and passed out candy to the local community to support the Halloween festivities. Over 350 kids from the area stopped by to get candy and see the players dressed up as some of their favorite characters.
"This was the first year we, as a team, had the opportunity to pass out candy to the kids," said Charles Hyde (Fort Mitchell, KY). "It was a great thing to do for the kids as it put a smile on all of their faces and helped us grow closer as a team."
The UC baseball players were creative in their costume ideas as they ranged from Mario characters to the Avengers to Call of Duty characters. The coaching staff even got involved as Head Coach Brad Shelton dressed up as Captain Feathersword and his assistant coaches were The Wiggles.
"We had a great time," said Coach Shelton. "I was pleased with the turnout. We passed out over 80 bags of candy. The kids had a great time and I am sure our players did as well. They really did a good job with the costumes. It was nice to get so many local kids stop by and see our field and interact with our players."
The Patriots open up the 2013 season on Saturday, February 2nd when they host Union College starting at 1:00 pm at Doyle Buhl Stadium in Williamsburg, KY.
