The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program finished out a fantastic regular season this past Saturday as they defeated Kentucky Christian University (KCU) by a score of 26-15. The Patriots were challenged up to the final minute as KCU's stout defense attempted to hold the NAIA's leading rushing offense to minimal yardage. With the win, the Patriots continued their success this season and the NAIA Top 25 poll reflected that.
UC held on to the #8 spot in this week's NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. Fellow Mid-South Conference (MSC) member Georgetown College moved to #1 in this week's poll as Marian (Ind.) fell to now #4 St. Xavier (Ill.) on Saturday. Other MSC teams mentioned in this week's poll were Bethel University (#18) and Cumberland University (#21).
With that ranking, the Patriots are currently in line to host their first round game in the NAIA National Championship tournament. The 1st round games will be played on November 17th as the matchups and locations for the NAIA National Championships will be announced on Sunday, November 11th. Cumberlands must remain in the top 8 in order to receive the right to host a first round game.
If the Patriots earn the home game, tickets for the 1st round game will be $10.00 for general admission and $5.00 for students. You can begin purchasing tickets on Monday, November 12th from 9am-5pm by calling the University of the Cumberlands Athletic Department at 606-539-4389.
