The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer team opened up the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Tournament Saturday is solid fashion against the Bluefield College Rams. UC scored early and never looked back as they took down Bluefield 4-1 and will advance on to the semi-final round in the tournament.
Scoring began in the 35th minute of the first half as Pedro Antonelli (Mairipord, Brazil) found the back of the net off a great through ball by Gonzalo Ortega (Las Condes, Chile) to put the Patriots on the board. Antonelli also placed one more in the net in the 39th minute to give UC a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
In the 2nd half, Antonelli would earn the hat trick on another 1 on 1 situation in the 56th minute to give UC a 3-0 lead. Daniel Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the final goal off an assist from Antonelli for the Patriots in the 72nd minute giving UC a commanding 4-0 lead.
Bluefield would find the board late in the 84th minute on a goal by James Gunn, but that would be all as UC would end the game with the 4-1 victory. Patriot goalie Dwayne Tucker (Knoxville, TN) earned the win with 4 saves on the match.
UC will advance to the semi-final round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Wednesday November 7th against either the University of Rio Grande or Shawnee State University. That game will be played at Lindsey Wilson College at 6:00 pm.
