The 2012-2013 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll was released Tuesday, October 23rd, a poll voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each conference and independents. After a successful season in 2011-2012, the University of the Cumberlands Patriots made the cut in this year's preseason poll as they were picked 25th for the 2012-2013 season.
The team received 50 total voting points, which is based on last year's ranking, record, and the new recruiting class each team has accumulated. The Patriots finished the 2011-2012 season unranked but receiving votes with a 20-12 record.
Concordia University (Calif.) finished on top of the polls in first place, receiving 250 total points and 9 first place votes. The Eagles had a stellar season in 2011-2012, not only claiming their Conference championship, but winning their second NAIA National Championship.
Cumberlands was one of four Mid-South Conference teams ranked in the top 25. Georgetown College was picked #3 overall while the University of Pikeville earned a #9 ranking. Lindsey Wilson College was just behind UPike at #11. Campbellsville University was also in the mix as they received votes in the preseason poll.
The Patriots are anticipating another thrilling season this year after defeating the heavy favorite Georgetown Tigers in the MSC Tournament Championship. The first regular season ranking will be announced in December, giving the Patriots room to jump the charts by then with 10 games under their belts.
Cumberlands opens their season on their home floor on October 30th against Indiana University Southeast. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.
