The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Soccer Team had an eventful week traveling to St. Catharine College on Wednesday and hosting Purdue University-Calumet on Saturday.  The Patriots fell to St. Catharine 5-1 but pulled together to take down PU-Calumet 4-2 for their 1st home win on the year.  The Patriots ladies now have a record of 3-9 with a Mid-South Conference (MSC) record of 0-6.

The Patriots were in trouble beginning in the first minute against St. Catharine, where Paola Martinez scored in the first 30 seconds.  UC was down 5-0 until a goal by Toni Dempsey (Australia) found the net in the 87th minute to prevent the shutout.  UC would drop this game to St. Catharine by a final score of 5-1.  Goalkeeper Autumn Williams (Lexington, KY) would save 5 shots on the game.

Going into Saturday, the Patriots were extremely hungry for a win as they hosted Purdue University-Calumet.  UC would take an early lead in the 8th minute of the game with a goal by Kelsey Brumley (Paris, KY) with an assist by Ginger Johnson (London, KY) to take the 1-0 lead. Calumet answered with two goals within one minute of one another to take a 2-1 lead, but the Patriots would answer quickly.  In the 23rd minute, Briana Parrish (Paris, KY) would find the back of the net off a perfect pass from Kim Robinson (Berea, KY) to tie up the game at 2-2 going into halftime.

The Patriots would take the lead in the 57th minute as Michelle Bailey (Buckinghamshire, England) would place a shot in the net off an assist by Parrish to give UC a 3-2 lead.  An insurance goal would find the net in the 79th minute by Ana Derrico (Brazil) with an assist by Bailey to give UC a 4-2 win, their 1st victory at home this season.  Goalkeeper Williams earned the victory allowing the two goals and making one save.

The Patriots will host the University of Pikeville at 2pm on October 15th as a part of a MSC doubleheader.
