The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer team had a rocky week as the Patriots took on the St. Catharine Patriots and the Asbury Eagles. UC was able to take a victory from St Catharine 3-1 but fell to Asbury 4-1. The Patriots now have a record of 7-3-1 on the year with a Mid-South Conference (MSC) record of 4-2.
The week kicked off on Wednesday at St. Catharine for UC. With an early point blank goal in the 5th minute of the game by Daniel Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) with an assist by Kerrie Latapy (Trinidad and Tobago), UC would take a 1-0 lead. St. Catharine's Rex Catron answered with a goal in the 19th minute to make it 1-1 which would be the halftime score.
UC would then find the back of the net again in the 76th minute from 10 yards out off an assist from Ariel Castanon (Chile) to Ferreira to give UC the 2-1 lead. The Patriots would put an insurance goal in and Ferreira would earn the hat trick with his 3rd goal of the game off the assist from Filipe Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in the 90th minute to give UC the 3-1 victory. Goalkeeper Dwayne Tucker (Knoxville, TN) earned the victory allowing just one goal and saving one shot.
The Patriots were not as lucky on Friday as they traveled to take on the Asbury Eagles. UC's lone goal of the contest was scored by Joao Ehlers (Sao Paulo, Brazil) with an assist by Pedro Antonelli (Mairipord, Brazil). Asbury was a force to be reckoned with in the game as they tallied 4 goals on the night to take a 4-1 victory over the Patriots. Goalkeeper Tucker had two saves on the night.
The Patriots will take to their home turf to face off against University of Pikeville on Monday, October 15th beginning at 4 p.m.
