The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Football program is on a hot streak currently as the Patriots have won their last 11 games dating back to last season. As the Patriots came off a hard fought battle in beating Faulkner this week 31-27, UC moved their record to 6-0 on the season and a 2-0 record in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). In the game, one Patriot stood out among the rest and for his efforts earned a huge honor.
Junior Dewaun Harrison (Chickamauga, GA) was named the MSC Defensive Player of the Week as well as NAIA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. UC's sophomore outside linebacker had his best game of the season as he had 7 solo tackles, 3 pass breakups, and a forced fumble. In a game where points were hard to come by, Dewaun also had a critical interception for a touchdown that put the Patriots up 14 going into the 4th quarter.
This season, Harrison has played some of his best football as he has 26 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, 4 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions returning 2 of them for touchdowns. There is no doubt that his presence has been felt on this defense that ranks in the top 10 nationally in turnovers.
The Patriots will be back in action this weekend on the road Saturday October 13th as they take on the Tigers of Georgetown College. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
