The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Volleyball Patriots came into the week with two tough games ahead of them. First, they had to travel Tuesday to Columbia to take on the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College before coming home to host Brescia University on Friday. The Patriots would split on the week as they now hit the road for the next week of play.
UC traveled to Columbia to take on Lindsey Wilson College. The Patriots really couldn't get a lot of momentum going their way in this one as they fell to the Blue Raiders in three straight sets by scores of 16-25, 16-25, 23-25. Leading the way for UC on the offensive was Cassie Kalman (Beavercreek, OH) as she had 10 kills on the night. Freshman Samantha Stuckwisch (Seymour, IN) was also a big help on the offense as she tallied 16 assists. Kalman would also be a leader defensively as she tallied 6 digs.
The Patriots would then come back home to host the Bearcats of Brescia University on Friday. The loss on Tuesday carried over heavy emotions as UC came out with determination and put away the Bearcats in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-14. Kalman once again led the Patriots offensively with 15 kills in the match while Kelsey Eastham (Urbana, OH) also pitched in 10 kills. Abby Dundon (Lexington, KY) was a machine assisting UC as she tallied up 38 helpers on the night. Senior Chelsea Hendrix (Seymour, IN) was huge defensively as she totaled 15 digs on the match with senior Kelsey Dew (Clinton, TN) just behind her with 12 of her own.
The Patriots ladies will be on the road this week as they take on Midway College on Tuesday, Cumberland University on Friday, and Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday. UC will be back at home on the 16th of October as they host Campbellsville University at 7:00 pm.
