The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer program continues their winning ways as they earned two victories during the week of September 26th. The Patriots earned a victory over the Union College Bulldogs on Wednesday and traveled to Georgetown to defeat the Tigers on Saturday. UC now has a season record of 5-1-1 with a Mid-South Conference (MSC) record of 3-1.
The Patriots took to their home turf on Wednesday against Union College, and the Bulldogs placed the first goal on the board in the 25th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, freshman Joao Ehlers (Sao Paulo, Brazil) answered with a goal off an assist by Daniel Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to tie up the game 1-1 going into halftime. The Patriots broke up the tie in the 50th minute off a goal by Imman Bains (London, England) who gave the Patriots the lead 2-1. Pedro Antonelli (Mairipord, Brazil) put in an insurance goal in the 73rd minute to give the Patriots a 3-1 cushion which was the final score.
With one win for the week under their belt, the Patriots traveled on Saturday to Georgetown College to take on the Tigers. Cumberlands took the lead early in the first half with a goal by Ehlers in the 10th minute giving UC a 1-0 lead which was the halftime score. In the second half, the Patriots scored two additional goals both off the foot of Antonelli with the first being assisted by Gonzalo Ortega (Las Condes, Chile). With excellent defense by UC, they were able to keep the shutout and take a 3-0 victory from the Tigers. Goalie Dwayne Tucker (Knoxville, TN) kept the Tigers off the board with 2 saves.
The Patriots will be back in action as they travel on Wednesday, October 3rd to take on Concord College in Athens, West Virginia. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
