The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer team had a rough week as they traveled to both the University of Rio Grande and Cumberland University.  The Patriots dropped their first game to the NAIA #2 ranked Red Storm 5-0, but came back in a big Mid-South Conference (MSC) victory over the Bulldogs 2-1.  The win and loss moves their season record to 3-1-1 with a Mid-South Conference Record of 2-1.

The Patriots put up a fight against Rio Grande on Wednesday, but were not able to pull together to defeat the Red Storm as the Patriots fell 5-0.  Joao Ehlers (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Pedro Antonelli (Maripord, Brazil), and Ciaran Tracey (Dublin, Ireland) led the team in offense with 2 shots each.  Imman Bains (London, England) and Daniel Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) followed with one shot.  Goalies Paulo Machado (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Alex Swoboda (Louisville, KY) each saved two goals.

The Patriots looked to bounce back as they traveled to Lebanon, Tennessee to take on the Bulldogs of Cumberland University on Saturday.  Cumberlands put two goals on the board early into the first half, both by Pedro Antonelli with assists by Ariel Castanon (Chile) and Kerrie Latapy (Trinidad and Tobago).  Although allowing one goal late in the first half, the Patriots held off the Bulldogs with excellent defense and won the game 2-1.  Antonelli put 4 shots on goal for the Patriots with Ferriera adding an additional 3 shots.  Castanon followed with 2 shots while Zach Bell (Hawarden, Wales), Latapy, and Bains each had one shot.  Goalie Alex Swoboda saved four goals.

The Patriots will be back at home on Wednesday, September 26th to take on Union College beginning at 3:30 p.m.
