The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Football program is on a hot streak currently as the Patriots have won their last 8 games dating back to last season.  As the Patriots took back the Brass Lantern last week in a routing of the Bulldogs of Union College on Saturday by a score of 48-14, UC moved their record to 3-0 on the season and a 1-0 record in the Mid-South Conference (MSC).  In the game, one Patriot stood out among the rest and for his efforts earned two honors for the week.

Iquan Deed (Montezuma, GA) was named the MSC Offensive Player of the Week and a Beyond Sports Network Player of the Week on Monday.  The sophomore running back for the Patriots exploded in the first half in the "Battle for the Brass Lantern" against Union where UC earned the largest victory in the series history over the Bulldogs.  Deed ran for 153 yards on just 7 carries for 3 touchdowns.  He also caught a pass for 38 yards and a touchdown and completed a pass for 30 yards in the game.

Currently, Deed leads the MSC in rushing yards per game averaging 92.7, yards per carry at 13.2, and total rushing yards with 278.

The Patriots will be back in action at home on Saturday September 22nd as they host the Bears of the University of Pikeville.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
