The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Golf team finished up there 3rd and final round of play on Tuesday at the Morehead State Kickoff at Wasioto Winds golf course in Pineville, KY. Although the Patriots didn't come out with a victory like last week, they played against many NCAA Division I teams and finished 5th out of 14 teams.
The Patriots were led by junior Hugo Alvarez Asorey (Oviedo, Spain) who shot a final round 71 (-1) and a three round total of 212 (-4) finishing in 4th place individually. Alastair Tidcombe (Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada) followed closely behind as he shot a 3rd round 71 (-1) and a three round total of 218 (+2) finishing tied for 12th. Sophomore Vince Drahman (Noblesville, IN) shot 74 (+2) in the final round and a three round total of 223 (+7) placing him tied for 27th. Stuart Balcombe (Clevedon, United Kingdom) followed Drahman as he shot a third round of 77 (+5) and 230 (+14) overall finishing tied for 58th. Rounding out the Patriots was senior Matt Walton (Lancashire, United Kingdom) who shot a final round 79 (+7) and a tournament total of 233 (+17) which was good enough to tie for 68th.
Individual participant Niclas Rigbrandt (Nykoping, Sweden) fired a 74 (+2) in the final round to round out his tournament at 226 (+10) and tied for 36th place.
Head Coach Chris Kraftick commented, "Top 5 this week against mostly D1 teams is a solid performance. We really struggled to finish both rounds 2 and 3 which cost us some important shots. Ally and Hugo continued their good play. They have combined for 7 under par rounds in two events."
The Patriots will be back in action on September 17th and 18th as they take part in the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament at the Campbellsville Country Club in Campbellsville, KY.
