The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program is off to a great start in the 2012 season. With a 2-0 record on the year, the Patriots are on the right track to the NAIA Championship Series once again. In last week's 55-13 win over then #22 Cumberland University, one Patriot stood out among the rest and for his efforts earned a Beyond Sports Network (BSN) College Athlete of the Week award.
D'Angelo Jordan (Jacksonville, FL) was a key contributor to the Patriots victory last Saturday over the Bulldogs. Jordan racked up 169 yards rushing on just 12 carries and found the end zone once for the Patriots. Continuously finding the outside during the game, Jordan averaged 14.1 yards per carry in UC's dominance on the offensive side of the ball. The Patriots ran for a total of 428 yards on Saturday including 5 touchdowns. Jordan leads the team this year with 185 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground as UC has rushed for nearly 600 yards in two games with 7 touchdowns.
The Patriots look to carry this momentum into Saturday as they travel to Barbourville, KY to take on Union College in the Battle for the Brass Lantern. The Patriots are looking to avenge last season's loss to the Bulldogs 24-19, one of just two wins on the season last year for Union.
You can listen to all the action on Saturday as Brandon Hensley and Ronnie Bowling will have the call. Locally, listen in on 104.3 FM EZ Country or online at www.cumberlandspatriots.com. Kickoff is set for 12:00 pm.
