On Saturday August 18th, the University of the Cumberlands volleyball program invited many of its past graduates back to campus as they hosted their annual Alumni game. The match was played in the Intramural Gym. The Patriots and Alumni both enjoyed their time on the court together but in the end, the Patriot varsity squad took the match over the Alumni by scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-13.
The Cumberlands graduates that were able to venture back for this year's Alumni game were: Amanda Walton (2002), Head Coach Kara Clemenz (2002), Student Assistant Coach Brittany Weinheimer (2013), Michelle Papas (2012), Courtney Fout (2012), Ellie Fisk (2004), Lisa Van Berkel (2005), Bridget Graves (1997), Jessica Davis (2002) and Coach Angie Dean was able to fulfill her duties as Head Coach for the day (former Cumberlands Volleyball Coach 1999.)
Current Patriot Head Coach Kara Clemenz commented, "The Alumni Game was an excellent opportunity for the 2012 team to face off against some of the former players from this growing program. We had a great time on and off the court. After the match, the alumni each spoke giving the current team a few ‘words of wisdom' about college and life after college. We really appreciate all of the alumni who travel back to campus from near and far for this alumni event and look forward to seeing them again next year!"
Overall, this was a very fun and entertaining start to the upcoming 2012-2013 volleyball season. The Patriots are currently 5-2 on the season as they are riding a 5 match winning streak going into tonight's match at Campbellsville University. Match time is set for 7:00 pm.
