The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Soccer team looked to get in the win column on Wednesday as they opened up their home schedule against the Lions of Bryan College.  The Patriots played well, but were unable to come from behind twice as they fell to the Lions by a score of 2-1.

The Patriot defense held off the Lions tough offense well until the 33rd minute when Bryan's Haley Julian gave the Lions a 1-0 lead that they would carry into halftime.  UC would answer quickly though in the 47th minute as Ana Derrico (Brazil) placed one in the back of the net off an assist from freshman Victoria Paynter (Sulphur, KY) to tie up the game at 1-1.  The Patriots did well the rest of the game, but some great play by Bryan and a goal by Alex Kuh in the 72nd minute gave the Lions the advantage and the win over the Patriots by a 2-1 margin.

Sophomore Kimberly Robinson (Berea, KY) took 7 shots in the game with 5 being on goal.  Derrico was not far behind with 5 shots and 4 on goal including the lone goal for the Patriots.  UC had 17 shots in the game with an impressive 13 being placed on goal.

UC will take to their home turf once again on Wednesday, September 12 at 2:00 pm as they host Bluefield College in their first Mid-South Conference match of the season.
