The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriots Volleyball team has had a very exciting and busy week. After a tough 5 game loss to defending AAC Champion Union College on Tuesday 23-25, 27-25, 25-13, 24-26, 13-15, the Patriots bounced back with a convincing 3-0 victory over Johnson University on Thursday by scores of 25-11, 25-19, 25-19. On Friday, the Patriots were looking to earn their 2nd straight victory on the week as they traveled to take on the Mountaineers of Berea College.
The Patriot ladies had a tough match on their hands after two games. UC took game 1, but Berea bounced back to take game 2 to even the playing field. The Patriots then came out determined in games 3 and 4 and came away with convincing victories to defeat the Mountaineers by a score of 3-1. Game scores were 25-22, 24-26, 25-8, 25-16.
Cassie Kalman (Beavercreek, OH), Megan Schulte (Beavercreek, OH), & Kelsey Eastham (Urbana, OH) all provided 7 kills against the Mountaineers. Sophomore Stacey Sebald led the team with 10 kills of her own. Samantha Stuckwisch (Seymour, IN) and Abby Dundon (Lexington, KY) helped the Patriots out with 15 & 13 assists respectively. Senior Chelsea Hendrix (Seymour, IN) and freshman Morgan Schlater (Springboro, OH) both were stellar on the serves as they recorded 4 aces each. Senior Kelsey Dew (Clinton, TN) led the team in defensive digs with 13. Following just behind Dew with 10 digs each were Hendrix and Dundon.
The Patriots Volleyball team will be back in action on September 4th as they travel to take on Kentucky State University in Frankfort, KY. Match time is set for 7:00 pm.
