The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer team enjoyed their first victory of 2012 at Bryan College on September 1st. The Patriots upended the Lions 2-1 in the first game of the regular season.

The Patriots and Lions went back and forth the full 45 minutes to begin the game and carried a 0-0 score into the 2nd half. UC quickly came out of the break in the 47th minute with a goal by Filipe Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.  Bryan matched the Patriots just 20 minutes later with a goal to even the score at 1-1. With strong offense and a great defensive effort led by senior Cedric Muteshi (Nairobi, Kenya), the game winning goal was scored by freshman Pedro Antonelli (Mairipord, Brazil) in the 81st minute to give the Patriots a 2-1 victory.

Antonelli led the Patriots in offense with three shots on goal.  Daniel Ferriera (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also put two shots on goal in the match.  Ciaran Tracey (Dublin, Ireland) and Joao Ehlers (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each had one shot on goal.  Goalie Paulo Machado (Sao Paulo, Brazil) stepped up and accumulated 5 saves allowing just one goal during his 90 minutes of play.
