University of the Cumberlands Baseball Coach Brad Shelton has announced the signing of left handed pitcher Logan Simpkins from Johnson Central High School in Paintsville, KY.
Simpkins had an outstanding high school career at Johnson Central. For his career he posted a 15-6 won-loss record, a 2.98 ERA, and struck out 115 hitters while tossing eight complete games. His team won 57th District Championships in 2010 and 2012. Logan had a break out senior season in which he posted an 8-3 record with a 2.56 ERA, 49 strikeouts and five complete games. For his outstanding senior season he received the 57th District MVP Award, Ashland Daily All Area Team Award and was also named 2012 All State Honorable Mention.
Coach Shelton commented on the signing of Simpkins, "I first saw Logan at a camp at UK and was impressed with his potential as a left hander. He had a great senior season and hopefully he will build on that success. With the loss of two lefthanders from last year's team, we will need a couple of newcomers to step up. Logan has the potential to do that."
