University of the Cumberlands baseball coach Brad Shelton has announced the signing of Jonathan Paquet, a right handed pitcher from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida.  Originally from Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, Canada, Paquet played his freshman season at the University of Kentucky and his sophomore season at Chipola.

Paquet was a 22nd Round selection by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2010 and a 36th Round selection by the Anaheim Angels in 2009.  During his high school years, Jonanthan played for coach Jean-Philippe Roy and made two starts in the Baseball Canada Cup for Quebec during the summer.  In his first start against British Columbia, he tossed five shutout innings allowing only three hits, walking two, and striking out five.  In his second start against Ontario, he pitched a complete game shutout allowing only two hits, no walks, and struck out five.  As a freshman at Kentucky, Jonathan pitched in 4 games and started 3.  He logged 11.1 innings striking out 10 and walking 5.  As a sophomore at Chipola, he pitched in 13 games, starting 12 of those.  He logged 52.2 innings striking out 43 and held opponents to a .225 batting average.  He was a part of a Chipola team that posted a 37-17 record in 2012.

Coach Shelton had this to say about the signing of Paquet, "Jonathan should step in and give us a front line arm.  He is a 6'4, 210 pound athlete.  We believe he can be the type of conference starter that eats innings and will match up well against other weekend guys in our league.  He has experience in the SEC and at one of the top junior college programs in the country.  We are excited that he is joining our team."
