Tue, Jul. 24, 2012 - [Women's Soccer]
The University of the Cumberlands Women's Soccer program hosted its annual Team Camp this past week on campus here in Williamsburg, Kentucky. The camp catered to 6 teams from around the region this week including Pikeville High School, Madison Southern High School, Boyd County High School, East Carter High School, Whitley County High School, and Cookeville High School. Over 110 student-athletes attended the camp this week.
The camp ran from Tuesday July 10th to Saturday July 14th and provided the campers with three sessions per day except for Saturday. During the camp, the athletes did numerous activities including technical and tactical training during the morning and afternoon sessions with the camp's staff which included both head coaches of the Patriots soccer staffs, Coach Russell Stewart of the Patriot Ladies and Coach Brenton Benware of the Patriot Men's team. During the evening sessions, the teams were matched up and played one another in scrimmages.
Coach Stewart commented, "This was a great week of camp for all of us. I feel that these girls were able to learn quite a bit from our staff we had here this week. The scrimmages we held during the evening sessions were very competitive and you could see some of the skills that the ladies learned coming out during those games. I'm glad to see the turnout that we had and hopefully we will have an even better camp next summer."
