Coach Brad Shelton of the University of the Cumberlands Patriots Baseball Team has announced the signing of A.J. Houk of Dunlap, Tennessee for the 2012-13 season.

Houk is a left handed pitcher/first baseman who graduated from Sequatchie County High School.  At Sequatchie County, A.J. has been in the starting rotation since his sophomore season.   He was the starting first baseman in his junior and senior seasons.  As a senior Houk started all 30 games, hitting .362 with a .414 on base percentage. On the mound he was 2-1 with a 1.06 ERA.

When asked about Houk, Coach Brad Shelton had this to say, "A.J. has a very good arm and is a projectable athlete.  We had to find left handers for this class.  Coach (Colin) Duffie has done a great job identifying and signing a quality guy in A.J. Houk.  We believe he could develop into an excellent pitcher in our league."
