The University of the Cumberlands (UC) holds various camps throughout the summer for youth of all ages. The Patriots Men's Basketball team held its annual team camp from June 3rd - 6th for high school varsity and junior varsity teams.
Participating in the 2012 Team Camp were teams from Williamsburg High School, Whitley County High School, Barbourville High School, McCreary Central High School, Jellico High School, Knox Central High School, Beth Haven High School, and South Doyle High School in Tennessee. All of the teams came into the camp with one goal in mind: to show the other teams as well as the camp staff that they were the best.
Most of this year's teams stayed on campus in the dorms when not in one of two gymnasiums being used for games continuously through the day. UC's coaching staff as well as other volunteers helped conduct the camp this where nearly 20 games were played each day. Each game consisted of two 20-minute halves with a running clock. Each team played a minimum of 8 games in the 4 day camp.
Head Coach Don Butcher commented, "We had a great week of team camp. We had a good mix of local schools and a couple of schools from outside our area that made for some great basketball. This team camp is a great way to see a lot of high school players and also see a lot of great high school coaches. Although two of the schools in the camp could only be here for two days, I'm glad they chose to come to our camp. Everyone had a good experience here and I hope to see all these teams back for our camp next year. "
