The University of the Cumberlands (UC) track and field program had certain members of both its men and women's teams compete this past week at the 2012 NAIA National Championships in Marion, Indiana.  While the Patriots did not have enough people to compete as a team, the Patriots competed well as individuals.

Two Patriot ladies competed in the Women's 1500 Meter Run with Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH) finishing in 9th place overall with a time of 4:38.25.  Freshman Danielle Hoop (Owenton, KY) finished the 1500 Meter Run in 12th place with a time of 4:44.26.  Senior Lauren Kachel (Pickerington, OH) competed in the Women's Marathon and did very well finishing in 8th place with a time of 3:07:51.30.

Two Patriot men also competed in the 2012 National Championships as Brendan Kelly (Lexington, KY) and Aundreas Lopez (Fort Lee, VA) ran in the Men's 800 Meter Run.  Lopez ran his preliminary run at 1:55.48 to finish in 19th place, just outside of the semi-final runs.  Kelly ran his prelim in 1:54.02 finishing in 10th and qualifying for the semi-finals.  There, Kelly could not come up with a time fast enough for the finals as he ran a 1:53.50 finishing in 12th place.
