The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Tennis Team was competitive this season as they took on some tough opposition. The Patriot ladies finished the season with a 5-14 record and 2-3 in Mid-South Conference (MSC) play.
The Patriots have a lot to look forward to next season. One individual stood out to the NAIA this season and for that, she has brought home some well deserved national honors as Neesha Thirumalaichelvam (Selangor, Malaysia) has been named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.
Thirumalaichelvam, in her sophomore season, was a standout for the Patriots earning a Mid-South Conference Player of the Week honor one time on her way to being named MSC All-Conference first team for the 2ndstraight season. Neesha ended the season with a 16-3 singles record and a 12-6 doubles record.
This is the 2ndstraight season that Thirumalaichelvam has earned NAIA All-American honors as she was the first women's tennis player to be named an NAIA All-American for women's tennis in its 20 year history last season.
Head Coach Chin Tan commented, "Neesha is very deserving of this award, even more so this year because she had better record and was a leader on and off the court. We are thrilled to have Neesha as an All-American after she was a 2nd Team All-American last season. Nevertheless, being recognized by other coaches is a real compliment. Her parents, teammates, and her coaches should be very proud of her success."
