The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Golf program had a stellar year in 2012-2013 and finished up their season at the 2012 NAIA National Championship in Greenville, TN.  The Patriots were within striking distance early in the tournament, but as the week progressed finished off the tournament in 14thplace.

The Patriot ladies started off the week on a high note shooting their best overall round of the tournament finishing day one with a team total of 308 and in 8thplace of 28 teams.  Cristina Jimenez (Murcia, Spain), Laura Beth Harris (Glasgow, KY), and Liz Stephens (Tockington, Bristol, UK) all finished the first round at three over par (76) and tied for 29thplace.  McKinzie Price (Somerset, KY) followed suit with a seven over par round (80).  Rounding out the team was Taylor Gillis (Lawrenceburg, KY) as she shot a first round +15 (88).

Day two was much of the same for the Patriots as they shot a team total of 311 to keep them in 8thplace as a team.  Stephens now led the way for the Patriots as she shot a 2ndround 77 to put her at 153 (+7) for the tournament.  Following closely behind was Jimenez who finished round 2 with a 79 and a 155 (+9) total.  Price also shot a 2ndround 77 to put her at 157 (+11) for the week.  Harris finished the 2ndround with an 81 to also end her day at 157 (+11).  Rounding out the Patriots was Gillis who improved her game drastically in the 2ndround shooting a 78 to finish the day at 166 (+20).

The third round was tough on the Patriots as they fell further behind the leaders as they finished the day with a team total of 321 and in 10thplace, making the cut for the final round of the tournament.  Stephens once again led the Patriots as she shot a third round 80 to put her at 233 (+14).  Jimenez closely followed as she shot an 80 in the 3rdround to finish at 235 (+16).  Harris improved on her previous day as she shot a 3rdround 79 to put her at 236 (+17) for the tournament.  Price closely followed suit with a 3rdround 82 to finish the day at 239 (+20).  Gillis rounded out the Patriot team shooting an 86 in the 3rdround to total for a 252 (+33).

The final round, unfortunately, was the worst round for the Patriots all week as they shot a team total of 323 to finish the NAIA National Championship in 14thplace overall.  The leader for the Patriots was Stephens as she shot a final round 80 to finish at 313 (+21) and tied for 34thplace.  Price finished her tournament with a final round 78 to end the week with a 317 (+25) and tied for 46thplace.  Jimenez followed closely behind as she shot a final round 83 to finish at 318 (+26) and tied for 52ndplace.  Harris dropped some positions as she finished the tournament with a final round 85 to end the week at 321 (+29) and tied for 66thplace.  Gillis rounded out the team shooting a final round 82 to end her tournament at 334 (+42) and in 85thplace.

Head Coach Chris Kraftick commented, "I thought going into the NAIA Championship, it was as much about laying the foundation for next year as it was a reward for this year.  We did an excellent job early in the event, especially around the greens.  It's a long week and as it went on, I felt our concentration left us at times.  All in all, being only a few shots out of the top 10 with a team that returns everyone is really exciting.  I'm proud of the effort the girls put into the entire two weeks and am really looking forward to the fall."
