University of the Cumberlands (UC) senior Lauren Kachel (Pickerington, OH) and junior Janada Acree (Cadiz, KY) are the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.

Kachel dominated the track in the 10,000-meter run at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational placing first with a time of 38.16.11; nearly five minutes better that second place. Because of Lauren's hard work, she helped the team to finish second overall with 125 points.   The following week, at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Open, she finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:41.29 which was only five short seconds off of the winning place. This award is her second athlete honor as she was chosen before on April 10th.

Acree earned a second and seventh place at the EKU Open to earn MSC Field Athlete of the Week.  She earned a second place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet and 1 inch, just four inches behind the first-place jump.  For her jump, Acree notched eight points towards the Patriots' team total.  Acree added two points to her individual total with a jump of 16'1" in the long jump.  This was Acree's first MSC honor of the year.

The UC women's track and field team will compete this coming weekend in the Mid-South Conference Championships in Rome, GA.
