The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Tennis team has had an up and down season in 2012, but overall have done well in conference play putting them in the 4thseed going into this weekend's Mid-South Conference (MSC) Tournament.  On Thursday night, the MSC held its yearly banquet for the teams and the Patriots came away with some high honors.  

Patriot freshman Juanjo de la Llera (Spain) was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year for his outstanding play during the 2011-2012 season.  He was also voted on as part of the All MSC First Team as voted on by the coaches.  De la Llera finished the regular season with a 14-2 overall record in singles action including a perfect 6-0 in conference play.  He also finished with a 10-5 record in doubles action as well as a 5-1 MSC record in that area. 

Cumberlands senior Danilo Garcia (Quito, Ecuador) was also named an MSC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection.  On the season, Garcia went 7-8 in singles action overall with a 4-2 mark in conference play.  He also went 9-5 in doubles action while going 5-1 in conference doubles play.

Two Patriots were also named MSC Academic All-Conference selections.  To be named Academic All-Conference, the student athlete must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average and be a sophomore or higher in academic standing.  Cumberlands senior Jerrid Neeley (Manchester, KY) and sophomore Iiern Low (Selangor, Malaysia) earned this high honor this season. 

The Patriots will be in first round action of the Mid-South Conference Tournament held in Lexington, KY on Friday as they will take on #5 seed Georgetown College at 11:00 am.
