The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Track and Field teams took to the road to Danville, KY to compete at Centre Invitational on Saturday.
In the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, senior Lauren Kachel (Pickerington, OH) took first with a time of 11:36.13. Also placing in the running events was freshman Danielle Hoop (Owenton, KY) in the women's 1500-meter run placing 2nd with a time of 4:42.62. Junior Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH) took 1st place in the women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.68, also making the NAIA "B" standard for Nationals.
Sophomore Janada Acree (Cadiz, KY) finished the 400-meter hurdles in 5th place with a time of 1:09.96. In the women's 200 meter dash, freshman Quanisha McFadden (Lima, OH) placed 4th with a time of 26.60. In the women's 5000 meter run, the Patriot ladies had two placing in the top 4. Senior Lauren Kachel finished 1st with a time of 18:32.75 while in 4th place was junior Jennifer Marcum (Springboro, OH) with a 20:57.98. In the relay events, the women's 4x400 meter relay placed 3rd with a time 4:05.46. The relay consisted of freshman Quanisha McFadden, sophomore Janada Acree, and juniors Darcy Mascotti and Natasha Sydnor (Elizabethtown, KY).
In the field events, the Patriot ladies had a good turnout. In the discus event, senior Rebecca Holcomb (Blanchester, OH) placed 2nd with a distance of 36.79 meters. Teammate Lawna Rivera (Sevierville, TN) placed 4th with a toss of 35.52 meters. In the shot put, freshman Taylor Mayes (Knoxville, TN) placed 5th with a toss of 10.97, followed by teammate Rivera with a distance of 10.85 and Holcomb placed 8th with a distance of 10.78 meters. In the Women's hammer throw, Rivera placed 3rd with a distance of 39.29. Holcomb also placed in hammer receiving 7th with a toss of 36.51. In the high jump, Acree placed 1st with a jump of 1.52 meters. In the pole vault, Rochelle Spurlock (Dayton, OH) placed 1st with a jump of 2.75 meters. The women's team placed 4th overall out of 8 teams with 107 points.
On the men's side, freshman Eric Phillips (New Castle, KY) placed 3rd in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:31.52. Also on the distance side, junior Brendan Kelly (Lexington, KY) placed 3rd with a time of 3:56.26 and junior Aundreas Lopez (Fort Lee, VA) placed 4th with a time of 3:57.22 in the men's 1500-meter run. In the men's 5000 meter run, senior Landon Hamilton (Andover, OH) placed 1st with a time of 15:20.21. Teammate Cory Kleinjan (Taylorsville, KY) placed 3rd with a time of 15:49.10 followed by Donnie Whyte (Miamisburg, OH) with a time of 15:58.34. In the men's 400 meter run, senior Kyle Belcher (Louisville, KY) placed 3rd with a time of 50.42. Belcher also placed 4th in the men's 200-meter dash with a time 22.55. Teammate Malcolm Dias (Kuwait, Salmiyah, IT) placed 3rd in the 200 with a time of 22.47. In the men's 100-meter dash, Dias finished in 3rd with a time of 11.35. Dias was followed by teammate Ezra Anderson (St. Louis, MO) with a time of 11.39. In the relay events, the Men's 4x400 meter relay finished 1st with a time of 3:23.32. The relay team consisted of senior Kyle Belcher, junior Brendan Kelly, sophomore Aaron Harrison (Courtland, OH), and freshman Malcolm Dias.
On the field events side for the men, senior Cory Chaffin (Pataskala, OH) placed 3rd in the shot put with a toss of 12.98. Teammate Christian Brislenn (Franklin, OH) placed 6th with a toss of 12.85. In the men's Javelin throw, senior Seth Stoffle (Seymour, TN) placed 6th with a throw of 39.45. In the hammer throw, Brislenn placed 6th with a toss of 35.03. The men's team placed 4th overall with 91 points.
The Patriots will be back in action on April 14thas they host the Cumberland Invitational.
