A handful of University of the Cumberlands (UC) track and field athletes traveled to Bloomington, Indiana on Friday to compete in the Indiana Classic. Those six athletes who competed at Indiana University competed very well overall in their respective events.
For the women's side of the competition, Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH) ran the women's one mile and finished in 18th place out of 47 women at a time of 5:13. The other woman to compete was Janada Acree (Cadiz, KY) in the women's high jump. Janada finished in 12th overall out of 22 competitors jumping a height of 5'3''.
For the men's side of the competition, Aaron Harrison (Courtland, OH) competed in the 600 meter run and finished 12th overall with a time of 1:26. Following the 600 meter run, the men's team had three men compete in the 800 meter run. Brendan Kelly (Lexington, KY), Aundreas Lopez (Fort Lee, VA) and Donnie Whyte (Miamisburg, OH) all competed and did well. Kelly finished in fifth place overall with a time of 1:56.86 followed closely by Lopez who finished in tenth place overall with a time of 1:57.61. Whyte finished in twelfth place with a time of 1:57.88.
Although there were no qualifiers, this was a very good eye opening experience for the Patriots who competed and they have several more approaching opportunities to qualify for nationals.
The Patriots will travel to Greencastle, Indiana for the DePauw Classic on February 11th, 2012.
