Perfection is what every team strives for each season, yet few rarely ever achieve it. Although the University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's basketball team isn't exactly perfect this season, with an overall record of 21-1 and 11-0 in conference play, the Patriot ladies are as close to perfection as it gets. With a close 73-65 win on the road against #25 ranked Lindsey Wilson College, the Patriots continue to pull away in the Mid-South Conference standings, as well as nationally as they are currently at #6 in the NAIA.
On Saturday, the Patriots travelled to Lindsey Wilson College where they defeated the Blue Raiders in an intense competition 73-65. Up only 5 points at halftime, the Patriots rallied together in the second half to fight off the Blue Raiders with strong team play.
The dominant senior trio of Lauren Wombles (London, KY), Haley Ratliff (Pikeville, KY), and Jade Howard (Salyersville, KY) continued to shine as all three players finished with double digit figures, while showing poise and control in key moments of the ball game. Lauren Wombles led all scorers with 25 points while grabbing 4 rebounds. Point guard Jade Howard chipped in 15 points and 4 assists while Haley Ratliff followed closely behind putting up 14 points of her own and snatching 6 steals. As a team, the Patriots shot 46% from the field and 35% from three-point land.
The Patriot ladies have an exciting week of home games at the O. Wayne Rollins Center as they host the University of Rio Grande on Thursday, February 9th at 6:00pm and West Virginia Tech on Saturday February 11that 2:00pm.
