The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's wrestling team has been on a hot streak as of late and looked to continue that on Friday night as they hosted Cumberland University for a Mid-South Conference (MSC) dual.  The Patriots came out early and set the tone as they defeated the Bulldogs 32-12.

The Patriots began the dual with four straight victories to jump out to a 16-0 lead early.  Larone Madison (Riviera Beach, FL) took a forfeit win in the 125 lb. weight class to start the night.  Grant Burkhalter (Citrus Heights, CA) earned a major decision victory over Ethyn Holbrook in the 133 lb. weight class 9-0.  In the 141 lb. weight class, Landon Burkhalter (Citrus Heights, CA) defeated Matt Scheve by decision 8-5 turning the team score into 13-0. Anthonie Linares (San Jose, CA) also earned a decision victory over Andy Schoultz 10-3 in the 149 lb. weight class extending the Patriots led to 16-0.

In the 157 lb. weight class, Derek Murdock (Lafayette, GA) unfortunately fell to Jake Shirley 3-6, putting Cumberland University on the scoreboard 16-3.  Zach Barkett (Woodbridge, VA) put the Patriots back in the win column in the 165 lb. division as he defeated Zeke Hunt by major decision 12-3, putting UC back in the driver's seat 20-3.  UC dropped their next two matches as Justin Dillinger (Mt. Orab, OH) was pinned in 6:15 by Nick Sasfy and Jeremy Gardner (Frankfort, KY) lost by decision 0-2 to Cody Linton bringing the score to 20-12.

The Patriots would wrap up the win in dominating fashion.  In the 197 lb. weight class, Courtney Freeman (Riverdale, GA) won by pinning Scott Stewart in 6:40 bringing the score to 26-12. Finally, Vince Pezzuto (Las Vegas, NV) pinned Joe Hill in 2:41 in the 285 lb. weight class to give the Patriots the 32-12 win.

The Patriots will be back in action on January 28th as they will host the Mid-South Conference Tournament in the O. Wayne Rollins Center.  Matches are set to begin at 9:00 am.
