The University of the Cumberlands (UC) football program had a successful season in 2011 but unfortunately did not end up in the NAIA playoffs. The Patriots had some athletes earn individual honors at season's end and another award was just handed out. The 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes have been announced with 244 student-athletes receiving the distinction.
For the University of the Cumberlands Patriots, William Marshall (Lynch, KY) earned the distinction of being named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete.
In order to be a recipient of the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete award, one must fulfill these requirements: the recipient must be a junior or senior in academic standing; have been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year; have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating institution; have been certified as eligible.
The Patriots finished the 2011 season with a record of 7-3 overall and 4-2 in Mid-South Conference play, good enough for 2nd in the Mid-South Conference West Division.
