The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's wrestling team wrestled in Meza, Arizona on October 29th. There were only three Patriot ladies who competed in the meet and there was very tough competition that challenged the ladies.
The competitors that the ladies faced traveled from all over the United States as well as other countries to wrestle in this tournament. The three ladies who competed for UC were Andrea Hughes (Sahuarita, AZ), Sydnee Nelson (Kingsland, GA), and Opelia Felipe (Rome, GA). The girls all received byes to advance a few rounds, however only Sydnee Nelson was able to advance past the first round. Nelson beat Brittany David from Lindenwood University by decision.
Head Coach Alaina Berube said, "I am glad these girls were able to compete and although we did not do as well as planned our girls were able to grow and learn from this experience. This gave these girls much more insight and will prepare them to compete in their next tournament."
The Patriots will continue their season when they travel to NYC to compete in the AMNYAC International Open on November 12, 2011.
