The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Soccer Team has had a very busy week. The Patriots brought home two victories against University of Rio Grande and Shawnee State, but were defeated by Tennessee Wesleyan. The Patriots now have a season score of 7-7.
UC traveled to Ohio to play Rio on October 10th. Ginger Johnson (London, KY) scored in the first half off an assist by Janina Schulze (Germany) to give the Patriots the lead, bringing the score to 1-0. The Patriots then played great defense to keep the score in their favor, winning by a final score of 1-0. Goalie Brittany Gadd (Mercer, PA) saved two goals, with the Patriots having 10 shots on goal.
The Patriots then played on their home turf against Shawnee State on October 13th. Tiffany Miller (Coxs Creek, KY) scored the first goal off a penalty kick halfway through the first half, bringing the score to 1-0. Miller scored again in the second half off another penalty kick. Mallory Gruenenfelder (Sweetwater, TN) scored the final goal 72 minutes into the game giving the Patriots the winning score of 3-0. Gadd had a 7 saves and the team took an amazing 25 shots on goal.
On October 15, the Patriots traveled to Tennessee Wesleyan College and suffered a 1-5 loss. Toni Dempsey (Australia) scored the Patriots lone goal 87 minutes into the game off a penalty kick. The Patriots had 19 shots on goal, with Gadd saving 8 goals.
The Patriots are set to play their final home game of the regular season on October 21st, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. against #1 ranked Lindsey Wilson.
