The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Swim team traveled to Barbourville, KY on Saturday October 8th to compete with Union College while the women also swam against Campbellsville University. After many close races and 11 wins out of 22 events, the Patriots racked in 91 points. The Bulldogs outscored UC by only 8 points, totaling 99 while the Lady Tigers boasted a score of 19.  

First place winners for the Patriots include:

 
  • Women's 200 Medley Relay (1:55.88) – Lizzy Horn (Wheat Ridge, CO), Melissa Peplinski (Spokane Valley, WA), Kaycee Perry(Bradenton, FL), Hanna Wright (Corbin, KY)
  • Men's 200 Medley Relay (1:38.86) – Zach Johnson (Ashland, KY), Jake Wood (Cicero, IN), Sam Hoeferle (Cicero, IN), Wes Miller (Largo, FL)
  • Lizzy Horn – 200 IM (2:16.56)
  • Joe Brinkman (Commerce Township, MI) – 200 IM (2:03.33); 500 Free (5:01.18)
  • Sam Hoeferle – 100 Fly (54.09)
  • Melissa Peplinski – 100 Free (55.57); 100 Breast (1:09.15)
  • Wes Miller – 100 Back (53.95)
  • Julia Maxie (Gainesville, GA) – 500 Free (5:27.56)
  • Jake Wood (Cicero, IN) – (1:01.12)

"We swam pretty well," said UC Head Swim Coach Eric Skelly.  "It was a good starting point for both teams. I feel that we will get stronger as the season goes on."

The Patriots will have one more attempt later in the season to top both neighboring rivals at the 2012 NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, OK on February 29 to March 2, 2012.

For now, UC will be on the road once again on October 22ndto take on the University of the South, in Sewanee TN.
