The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's soccer team split games on the week, falling to Campbellsville University and taking a win from Pikeville University.  Their overall record now stands at 5-6, with a 2-1 record in the Mid-South Conference (MSC).

On Tuesday, October 4th, the Patriots faced off against the Campbellsville Tigers. The first half of the game started off strong for the Patriots with seven shots on the goal. Even though the Patriots played hard, Campbellsville made put two to the back of the net by the end of the first period.

To start the second half UC came onto the field with greater intensity. As a team they played a more physical game and pursued the ball defensively. UC freshman, Morgan Reed (Stanford, KY) recorded the lone Patriot goal for the game.

Even with great passion, the Patriots fell to Campbellsville with a final score of 3-1. With all the effort they brought to the end of the second half, the remainder of the season shows great promise.

"I was proud of my girls for not giving up and playing to the final whistle," said UC Head Women's Soccer Coach Russell Stewart

"Despite a disappointing loss there were a lot of positives to take from the game… I thought we were the better team overall and that we failed to take our chances… and I am positive that we will grow and mature as the season moves on," stated Stewart.

On Saturday, October 8th, the Patriots took on the Bears of Pikeville University.  The game started out slow for the Patriots, with not a lot of action on either side. UC came alive in the second half nearly doubling shots on goal as the Patriots put off an impressive total of 16 shots in the second period alone.

After the regular ninety minutes of play, the game was tied at 1-1.  The Bears were up by one at the half, but a drive into the net in the second period by UC's Danna Stringle (Ontario, Canada) put the game back even.

Twelve minutes into overtime, the Patriots took the game from the Bears as Marcela Calienta (Brazil) pushed hard up the field and made the game winning goal for UC.  The game finished in a 2-1 Patriot OT victory.

The Patriots are back in action again as they face off against Rio Grande University on Monday, October 10th at 5:00 p.m.
