The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Soccer Team is in the middle of their 2011-2012 season and currently holds a 4-4-1 record on the year. The Patriots look to improve in the 2ndhalf of the season behind Coach Brenton Benware and with the help of goalkeeper Taylor Higgs (Lexington, KY). Higgs was recently named the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 2ndfor his efforts this far on the season.
This is Higgs' first honor of the season as the MSC Player of the Week. Last week, Higgs was able to record a big shutout against NAIA #24 Reinhardt University (GA) in a 2-0 victory for the Patriots. Higgs only tallied up 1 save in the game, but the Patriot defense did a fantastic job keeping the Eagles from getting shots on goal holding them to 12 shots and 2 being on goal.
On the season, Higgs hold a1.59 goals against average per game recording 18 saves on the season and allowing just 7 goals in 6 games. He also has the one shutout on his record as well.
The UC Men's soccer team will be in action on Saturday October 8that the University of Pikeville at 8:00 pm.
