The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Cross Country teams continued their season by competing in the Queen City Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 8, 2011. Both the Cumberland men and women's teams competed in the 5k event. The men placed 4th out of 13 teams with 117 points and the women placed 5th out of 15 teams with a total of 145 points.
The first race to compete was the women's 5k. The Patriot ladies had a terrific race and were led by Lauren Kachel (Pickerington, OH) with a 15th place finish and a time of 19:08 followed closely by Darcy Mascotti (Bellbrook, OH) who ran a time of 19:12 and finished in 17th place.
Next to cross the line for the Patriots was Danielle Hoop (Owentown, KY) who finished in 30th place with a time of 19:41. Christine Moon (Sardinia, OH) who ran a time of 20:35 finishing in 45th place finished next. Shelby Gibbons (Hamersville, OH) finished next with a time of 20:58 in 51st place finishing out the top five Patriot ladies.
Next place was junior Meghan Swope (Hamilton, OH) who ran a 22:03 for a 81st place finish followed very closely by junior Audrey Springer (Pataskala, OH) who crossed the line for the ladies and ran a time of 22:50 for a 94th place finish. Following Audrey and finishing out the Patriot ladies side of the competition was Adreana Barrera (Dallas, TX) who finished in 106th place with a time of 23:27.
The men competed in the 5k race in Cincinnati on Friday. First to finish for the Patriot men was Landon Hamilton (Andover, OH) who ran a time of 15:47 and finished in 12th place. Next up was Cory Keleinjan (Taylorsville, KY) who ran a time of 16:01 for a 22nd place finish followed by Donald Whyte (Miamisburg, OH) who ran a 16:28 for a 32nd place finish.
Andres Lopez (Fort Lee, VA) crossed the line next for the Patriots with a time of 16:33 finishing in 35th place overall. Rounding out the top five for the Patriot men was Daniel Thurston (Frankfort, KY) who ran a 16:45 and finished in 45th place.
Next to cross the line was Ben Rawe (Melborne, KY) who finished his race in 59th place after running a 16:59. Next up was freshman Eric Phillips (New Castle, KY) who finished in 86th place after running a final time of 18:02. The final two Patriot men to compete were Aaron Harrison (Courtland, OH) who ran a 18:19 finishing in 90th place and Patrick Partin (Powell, TN) who ran a 18:45 finishing in 99th place.
