
The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Wrestling team traveled to North Dakota to compete in the Can-Am Wrestling Tournament hosted by Jamestown College on November 20th.
The Patriots had a strong turn-out, having seven girls place in the top six of their respected weight classes while two of the girls ended up in the finals and one coming back to campus a Can-Am Champion.
The only champion of the weekend was Lakia Henderson (Osceola, FL) at the 90kg weight class, where she finished the day with a perfect 3-0 record to help her claim her title. At the weight class under her Sydney Nelson(Kingsland, GA) at 81kg lost her final match of the day to give her a 2nd place finish in her weight class.
Breisja Macera (Kissimmee, FL) showed some true character over the weekend by battling all the way back through the consolation bracket to take the win and bring home 3rd place.
UC had two ladies wrestle at the 48kg weight class both placing top 6th for the Patriots. Jessica Nguyen(Houston, TX) finished off with a 4th place, followed by Cassandra Devlin(Dale City, CA) who was able to bring back a 6th place as well.
To wrap things up for the Patriot Ladies, Milagros Zamora(Miami, FL) and Katy Yoder(Beavercreek, OH) were both able to take home a 5th place for the Patriots.
The women's wrestling team will be at home on December 4, 2010 as they host the Cumberlands Duals. Wrestling begins at 9 AM with five of the top teams in the United States competing.
