The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women's Golf team participated in their final event of the fall season, the NAIA Preview, and placed 7th in a field of 14 teams with a 2 day (36 hole) team total of 631 (317-314). Shorter University placed 1st with a team total of 612, Northwood University took 2nd with a score of 615, and William Woods University finished 3rd with a score of 616.
Finishing in the lead position for the Patriots with a score of 153 (78-75) was Laura Beth Harris (Glasgow, KY). She placed 8th overall individually out of 70 women. Two other Patriots finished in the top 20 individually as well; Emma Burman (Stockholm, Sweden) with a 155 (76-79), and McKinzie Price (Somerset, KY) with a 156 (78-78).
"Overall I thought we did a nice job," said University of the Cumberlands Head Golf Coach Chris Kraftick. "We tied our season low 36 hole total set in our last tournament and we have continued to get better each tournament. We made some mistakes, especially around the greens, that hurt us but it was probably our best ball striking tournament so far. McKinzie, Laura Beth, and Emma have all played their last 4 rounds at 79 or better and Taylor will playstretches of holes where she looks like our best player. She and Chelsea need to continue gainingexperience and be more confident in their decision making. I think we played one of the best schedules in the country this fall, and got better each time out. Even with a young group I wasn't going to play just a couple local tournaments and dodge the best teams. These last two events really set the stage forwhat should be a great spring."
The women finished the fall season with a team scoring average of 321.7 per 18 hole round, which is almost 2 shots better than last year's average. McKinzie Price made two All-Tournament teams while Laura Beth Harris and Emma Burman both made one All-Tournament team. The team finished with a 38-13-1 record, with most individual averages around 80 strokes.
