The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Golf Team had a solid 2009-2010 season this year as they barely missed the cut for the NAIA National Championship tournament in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Individually, Patriot McKinzie Price (Somerset, KY) was picked as an individual at-large to participate in the tournament to represent UC, but with a single phone call on Wednesday afternoon, that all changed.
With a withdrawal by Wayland Baptist (Texas) qualifier Charlotte Guilleux, UC junior Emma Cutmore (Halstead, Essex, United Kingdom) has earned her right to play in the NAIA National Tournament.
“It was a great surprise to me and I can’t wait to get there,” said Cutmore about learning she would participate in the NAIA National Tournament. “McKinzie and I now can represent our program at nationals and gain experience for our teammates next year.”
This is now back to back years that one team has had two individuals qualify for the national tournament as Lee University (TN) had two in 2009. It’s just a matter of time before the whole Patriot women’s golf team is represented.
Coach Chris Kraftick said, “It was great news when the committee came to me during the men’s tournament and invited Emma to the women’s tournament next week. She has had a great year and has worked incredibly hard to achieve this.”
Emma was graduated from The Ramsey School in Essex, England. She began her collegiate career at Dodge City Community College before transferring to Cumberlands. During her career at Dodge City CC, Cutmore placed 5th in the NJCAA National Championship in May 2009. She was also named All-Region for both seasons while she attended Dodge City CC. Emma won the Southeast Girls in England as well as the Essex Match Play Championship. She also was the runner up twice in the Essex Ladies AM Championship. In addition, Cutmore is a 4 time Colme Valley Golf Club Champion.
