The University of the Cumberlands women’s golf team competed in the Tennessee Wesleyan Invitational tournament this week and came home with their first, first place finish of the year. Shooting a two-day total of 662, the Patriot ladies were 59 strokes ahead of the second place team, Ohio Dominican University.

After a rough first round shooting 344, the Patriot ladies were able to come back the second day and shoot 318 their lowest team score of the spring season. Head Coach Chris Kraftick said, “It is exciting to get our first win and I am proud of the way we responded after the first days effort.”

Leading the Patriots scoring was Emma Cutmore (Essex, England) with 84, 75 for a two-day total of 159 to win the tournament. This was Cutmore’s first win as a Patriot. She had won six tournaments at her previous school in Dodge City, KS. Kraftick said, “It is great to see Emma put a good round together to win the tournament."

McKenzie Price (Somerset, KY) and Laura Beth Harris (Glasgow, KY) both shot 85, 78 for a two-day score of 163. Harris and Price tied for second in the tournament placing them both on the All Tournament team. Brittany Napier (Manchester, KY) played as an individual but also made the All Tournament team coming in 5th place shooting 88, 83 for a total of 171.

Hannah Moore (London, KY) came in 11th place shooting 90, 91 for a total of 181. Katie Akins (London, KY) came in 12th place shooting 95, 87 for a total of 182. Nicole Braden (Knoxville, TN) played as an individual and shot 94, 88 for a total of 182 putting her in a tie for 12th with Akins.

The Patriots have less than a week to prepare for their next tournament. “We have a short turn around to get ready for Georgetown,” said Kraftick. “We still have to clean up some things that are affecting our scoring.” Cumberlands will travel to Georgetown on April 5th and 6th to compete in the Bluegrass Invitational tournament.
