The University of the Cumberlands Women’s Golf team traveled to Nashville, TN to Trevecca Nazarene’s Invitational tournament this past week and returned with a 3rd place finish. After the first round of play the ladies were only two strokes out of first and tied for second with a first day team total of 326.
Lindsey Wilson once again came away with the number one finish shooting a two-day total of 635. Lindenwood University took second shooting 656, and the Patriots were only three strokes behind with a 659.
University of the Cumberlands Assistant Golf Coach Aubree Moore said, “The second day we struggled a little and let a few bad holes get in the way of finishing second.”
Leading the Patriots was freshman McKinzie Price (Somerset, KY) shooting 156 and finishing tied for 4th. Price also earned a spot on the All Tournament Team. Following Price was junior Emma Cutmore (Essex, England) with a 10th place finish shooting 161. Sophomore Hannah Moore (London, KY) shot 170 and placed 20th. Freshman Laura Beth Harris (Glasgow, KY) shot 172 and came in 22nd while sophomore Brittany Napier rounded out the Patriot scoring with a 179 tying for 28th place.
“This tournament again reminded us how close we are to being one of the top 10 teams in the country and we will use that frustration as motivation during the off season,” Moore said.
Finishing fall play with a 19-10 record, the Patriot ladies are currently ranked 22nd in Golfstat Head to Head Rankings and are on pace to set a school record in scoring average at 323.4. An overall outstanding opening for a young team who tallied 2 Runner-Up and 2 Third Place finishes with their lowest finish at 5th at the prestigious Berry College Invite.
The Patriot women’s golf team will begin their spring season sometime in March; their schedule of events is still pending.
