With freshmen Laura Beth Harris (Glasgow, KY) and McKinzie Price (Somerset, KY) leading the way, the University of the Cumberlands Women’s Golf team finished second in their own Annual Bill Sergent Invitational Tournament on Thursday and Friday.

“McKinzie has two straight runner up individual finishes in her first two college starts and Laura Beth came through with another All Tournament title which is pretty impressive,” commented University of the Cumberlands Head Golf Coach Chris Kraftick. Harris and Price were both named to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding efforts.

Playing in their second tournament of the season, the Patriots tallied a team two-day total of 652 at the Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky. Lindsey Wilson College won the tournament shooting 629. “The women have started of the season with two straight runner up finishes to one of the best teams in the country,” stated Kraftick. Lindsey Wilson finished the 2009 season ranked 9th in the country. Campbellsville University took third with 677, Georgetown fourth with 713, and Union rounded out the top five with a two-day team total of 735.

The Patriots were lead by Price shooting a two-day total of 157 tying for the second place finish while Harris was not far behind with a 160, tying at 5th. “We didn’t play our best in the second round, but overall it has been a great start for the program,” said Kraftick. “This team wants to win badly, and I think it will happen soon.”
