The University of the Cumberlands Head Baseball Coach Brad Shelton would like to announce the commitment of Billy Grant, a left handed pitcher/outfielder from Lebanon, Kentucky.
Grant played high school baseball at Marion County High School and summer baseball for the Bluegrass Stars where he was a part of the BPA World Championship team.
Billy had an outstanding high school career in which he set school records for wins (20) and strikeouts (223). As a senior he compiled a 5-3 record with a 1.90 ERA while hitting .457 with three homeruns and 26 RBI. He was named to the East West All Star Team and was named Honorable Mention All State.
During his junior season Grant was named All District, All Region, 5th Region Player of the Year, East West All Star, and All State Honorable Mention. He received his teams MVP and Quality At Bats award in 2007 and 2008. He was also the teams Pitcher of the Year in 2005, 2007, and 2008.
An excellent student as well, Billy was named Academic All State all four years (2005-2008) of high school.
Coach Shelton had this to say about the signing of Billy Grant. “Billy was a great sign for us,” said Shelton. “He had an amazing high school career and played in a very good summer program. He has had great coaching in high school and summer baseball. He will get a chance to be a two-way player for us. He is a hard worker and a great student. We are excited that he will be a part of our program.”
The Patriots ended 2008 with an overall record of 43-16 and a 17-2 record in the Mid-South Conference.
